What
sort of shape do I need to be in?
For backpacking journeys and vision
quests, you should be able to walk 3-5 miles in a day with a
35-50 pound pack on your back. Preparing yourself by walking
with that weight is highly recommended
Do
I need to have my own equipment?
Yes. You will need to come fully
prepared with all your own gear, including a sleeping bag, pad,
back pack, hiking boots and various other small equipment. A
full, detailed equipment list will be sent to you upon registration.
I
haven’t backpacked before, is that ok?
Yes. Many of the people who join
us on our journeys do not have any experience. Let me stress
though that getting in shape AND having good gear will be your
responsibility. We do go slow and accommodate everyone’s experience
level within reason. No previous camping or backpacking experience
is necessary to undertake any of our trips.
How
will I get there?
All transportation costs and planning
up to the trailhead/meeting place will be your responsibility.
Due to the remoteness of the places we journey into, it often
means flying into an airport in the nearest big city and renting
a vehicle (carpooling is best) and driving (sometimes several
hours) to the meeting place. Again, these costs and coordinations
are yours. We will set you up with telephone numbers so that
you can plan carpooling and rental car sharing.
Will
we hike everyday?
We try to hike some everyday, but
not always with backpacks. On the journeys into the Raven’s Eye,
we pack into a basecamp and then day hike some every day. During
our Quests, again we backpack into a basecamp, but then will
spend some days in camp and some will have some dayhiking. During
your solo, you will be staying in one place.
